In 1949 a group of men came together to learn CW taught by a blind ham operator named Hyram. Hyram lived on the South East corner of Main St. and Posotum. Most of them became licensed amateur radio operators. These gentlemen started meeting regularly. This was the founding of what is now known as the Pottawatomie County Amateur Radio Club.
There have been a lot of changes in amateur radio since 1949, however one thing remains the same. We as an organization still strive to help each other, new ham operators, and those interested in joining the hobby learn and explore any area that interests them from emergency communications to new digital technology and everything in between.
Our Volunteers are our organization. Without our volunteers putting in the time and effort we would not be the great benefit to our community and this hobby that we are.
